Vaudeville

Vaudeville was a theatrical genre of variety entertainment in the United States and Canada from the early 1880s until the early 1930s. Types of acts included popular and classical musicians, dancers, comedians, trained animals, magicians, female and male impersonators, acrobats, illustrated songs, jugglers, one-act plays or scenes from plays, athletes, lecturing celebrities, minstrels, and movies. Vaudeville developed from many sources, including the concert saloon, minstrelsy, freak shows, dime museums, and literary burlesque. Called “the heart of American show business,” vaudeville was one of the most popular types of entertainment in North America for several decades.

Burlesque is a humorous theatrical entertainment involving parody and sometimes grotesque exaggeration. In 20th century America, the form became associated with a variety show in which striptease is the chief attraction.

While the American form of burlesque has its origins in 19th century music hall entertainments and vaudeville, in the early 20th century American burlesque re-emerged as a populist blend of satire, performance art, and adult entertainment featuring striptease and broad comedy acts that derived their name from the low comedy aspects of the literary genre known as burlesque. Here the term “burlesque” was used loosely to describe these adult revue shows in which striptease acts would perform—often with themes, characters or gimmicks—but classic striptease and “hootchy kootchy” dance were already forms in themselves and not automatically “burlesque” by default.

In burlesque, performers, usually female, often create elaborate sets with lush, colorful costumes, mood-appropriate music, and dramatic lighting, and may even include novelty acts, such as fire breathing or contortionists, to enhance the impact of their performance.

Almost Heart Broken

Posted: September 26, 2010 in Uncategorized

I woke up on this fine Saturday morning and got ready for work and stopped in the kitchen right before leaving the house. What do I find? De-thawed  rats on my counter; which were supposed to be fed to Plague last night. Then I looked over at his cage and it was the saddest thing I’ve seen: EVER. He was in the same spot I saw him in last night right before I went to bed; just starting up at the top of the cage waiting for his nom nom’s. I felt so horrible, my heart about broke at that moment.  His cute beady little eyes were full of anticipation and staring at me saying, “Mom, I smell my nom nom’s, I R hungry. I R waiting all night for demz. Can I  have dems nowz? Paweez?” I felt so bad that I had to toss the ones that had been sitting out all night and make the poor little guy wait until after I got off of work to eat. I tried to make up for it, he got a nice big juicy Rat. He seems satisfied with his dinner but I will never forget how cute and incredibly sad he looked this morning.

Routine

Posted: September 24, 2010 in Uncategorized

Routine, as a course of normative, standardized actions or procedures that are followed regularly, often repetitiously.

regular, unvarying, habitual, unimaginative, or rote procedure.

dull or uninteresting; commonplace.

unremarkable, ordinary, typical….

These are all words that I have come to loath because it describes what life is like from day to day. You wake up at the same time everyday to wear the same boring work clothes, (same boring you) to then go to the same boring job that you have been doing for how long now?  Obviously, too long. You will spend this average, normal day with the same unremarkable people that you always do; your co-workers. Are they interesting or it is the same BS different day? Answer: Same BS everyday. All day you look forward to 4:30 when you can go home; driving the same route you always do, hoping that today it will be different. As always you walk in the door to your roommates doing the usual things they do; nothing productive. You think about the dishes they could have cleaned or the super they could have made but once again it’s all on you and you wonder why did i want to come home? What is the point? Should I pick up another job just to have a reason not to come home? Then you sit around doing the same boring things because you just can’t seem to motivate your self. Dinner is ordinary and as always there is nothing special about the rest of the night. Your roommate continues to not pull his weight and has the same excuses every time you talk to him. WTF is wrong with you? Why do you put up with this shit? You find your self questioning things like this more and more often.

You could quit you job, move out of your apartment and back into your parents place, lose everything that you have worked so hard to get and become a bum!

WOW how unappealing. So what is a girl to do? Does she keep doing what she is doing and remain miserable? Maybe small changes or actions out of routine could keep her afloat?

In the end, she feels like she is wasting her time and her life so other people can live comfortable off of her and in return she gets nothing.

FUCK ROUTINE! IT IS THE KILLER OF HOPES, DREAMS, Spontaneity, and fun! There is no fix to this problem because the non-routine eventually becomes routine. The cycle of Bullshit will continue and we can only try to keep our minds guessing.

Emu

Goat Antagonizes Emu - Quail Dance

Our Friend Goat, was antagonizing the emu’s by doing the “Quail Dance”.  Emu reaction = hungry bird. Ommm-nommm.

BTW the “Quail  Dance”- has to do with Hacky Sac.
The Emu’s had a cage mate; a goat. As we were walking up to the emu’s this goat was following a lady down the fence. I think he was hopeing for a snack.

Goat

After visting the emu’s and their friend the goat we found a Illama that was hanging out with more goats.

These Goats were surprisingly quiet.

While checking out the goats, Illamas and this creature that looked close to a Illama but was deffinately not a Illama, I noticed a baby goat sitting on top of the hay bails everyone was munching on.

Another Shot of the Splash Garden

It was wonderfully amazing. The Splash Garden brought out a kind of child like wonder I had not felt in years.

We walked around the lake on the life path and  stopped by these LifeTrail Station. Where they advised you how to stretch, talked about Yoga, Tai-Chi and Osteoporosis.

LifeTrail Station

I’d never seen anything like it before. It was kind of cool actually but it seemed like it was marketed for a much much older age group. We also took a walk over to the Gazebo on the lake to plan out some shots for the ceremony. On the way to the gazebo we found this…

Hop Sock

Here’s the Gazebo, the wedding is not until October; I’m hoping that by then the leaves will have turn there brilliant falls colors by then.

It was a nice afternoon at the park with the boys.
